Local student wins $40,000 scholarship from Edison International

Jackie Wang loves studying about the universe, and on March 20, the Etiwanda High School senior received a major scholarship which will help her reach for the stars.

Wang, who will be majoring in astrophysics, was awarded a $40,000 college scholarship from Edison International during a special ceremony at the school.

“I am extremely grateful,” she said. “A huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”

Wang was delighted to be honored during the surprise announcement while being cheered on by her mother, Susan Wang, along with her classmates, teachers, and Edison representatives.

She has a 4.8 grade point average and has received all A’s throughout all four years of high school.

Each year, Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison, awards $1.2 million in scholarships to 30 high school seniors pursuing majors in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) fields at a four-year accredited college or university
