Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce launches Walk of Stars app

The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce has launched a new app for the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.

Through the app, users can locate the star they are searching for and read a short biography on the celebrity or philanthropist they’ve looked up.

The idea came from the Hollywood Walk of Stars, which has its own app. Jeff Jones, the director of programs for Palm Springs, was able to collaborate with the Hollywood Walk to create an app that mirrors theirs.

“The app allows information on the stars to be kept up to date and will save on paper waste that previous pamphlets created” Jones said. “It just makes sense to put all of our information into an app.”

The app is funded through the Walk of the Stars Program. “No tax payer dollars go into the program, it is self-funded through the cost of the stars,” Jones said.

It also features pop trivia quizzes where users can test their Palm Springs knowledge. Other fun features include the ability to create your own star and take a picture with past star recipients using an Instagram-like filter.

It’s currently available on the app store for iPhones and iPads. Jones has plans to develop an app for other mobile devices this coming year.

Updates for the app will include exclusive coupons to restaurants and businesses around the downtown area. Jones wants to promote local establishments and help them gain exposure through the app.
